BLOODSTOCK 2021 – 5 Brand New Bands/5 Reconfirmed

General Information:

Bloodstock Metal Festival 2021 has announced another group of bands to play. Five of them are brand new and five are artists who have reconfirmed from the delayed 2020 festival. The festival is 5 days this time around starting on the Wednesday 11 August through to the Sunday 15 at the usual venue of Catton Parkin Derbyshire. Wednesday will be the half-day this time and like the Thursday will be made up of smaller bands (but no less quality) between all the smaller stages with the big stage known as the Dio Stage joining in the fun Thursday to Sunday. Onto a look at the very latest additions.

5 Brand New Bands:

First up on the second stage (known as the Sophie Stage) on the Friday comes Noctem from Spain. They have been around since 2001 starting out as an extreme metal act but around 2007 when the line up completely changed leaving only the singer Beleth they became 100% black metal. Their first album was Divinity in 2009 so all the albums are black metal. Their latest The Black Consecration came out in 2019 and is raw and crushingly heavy.

Also, Friday on the Sophie are Deified from Liverpool. These are one of a number of bands are making the step up from the New Blood Stage having played it back in 2015. This 5 piece outfit formed in 2013 and write and perform dark angry lyrics around modern issues such as climate change, social media, mental health and politics. Heavy stuff to go with heavy music. They have a new EP out called Anthrobscene which came out this year.

Sticking to the Friday and the Sophie we have from Wales’ Agrona who are black metal in style. The difference with these guys is they write about Welsh folklore. The name of the band refers to the Celtic goddess of carnage and slaughter! I am sure she would approve of the unholy noises they make. They only have the one album Realm Of The Fallen from 2018 which is excellent.

Also, Friday Sophieare Garganjua from the Midlands in England. They are a 4 piece melodic doom outfit. They also have conquered the New Blood, this time in 2016. Their latest album is called Toward The Sun came out early summer this year and anyone who loves bands like Pallbearer or My Dying Bride should definitely dig it.

Last of the brand new announcements is King Goat who are down to play Saturday also in the Sophie. The band from Brighton play progressive doom with elements of black and death metal. They are very atmospheric with a vocalist who can do both clean and growled vocals extremely well. These folks played New Blood back in 2014. Their latest album (from 2018, maybe something new by Bloodstock?) is called Debt Of Aeons and is well worth checking out.

5 Bands Reconfirm:

As stated before 5 bands have renewed, all of whom we have spoke about at further length when the festival was due to be played this year so I will keep it brief. There is Exhumed with their death metal meets grindcore all the way from the USA. The band were formed by Matt Harvey as a 15-year-old back in 1990. They have an entire album (Defenders Of The Grave) about the graverobbers in my local town of Edinburgh who I am sure folks have seen movies about! They play Friday on the Sophie. Also jumping over are Necrot who are death metal punk from California. They have been around since 2011 and their second album Mortal came out this year. At the moment there is not a definite date for them. As soon as we know at CGCM we will let you know. Also on an unknown date are Idle Hands from Portland Oregon. They are gothic style metal with singer sounding like the singers from say The Mission or The Cure whilst the band play quite a commercial blend of metal. Again once we get details of day and stage we will announce on here. For Saturday Sophie stage we will also see Viscera a modern tech metal band from the UK. The band are comprised of members from previous metal outfits so have some pedigree. They only formed in 2019 and have 1 album out called Obsidian. For fans of MeshuggahPantera and At The Gates for definite.

Finally one more but for the Dio Stage on the Friday, that being occult metal Savage Master from the USA. They formed rather appropriately on Halloween 2013 and released their third album Myth, Magic And Steel (which made one of our contributor’s #1 of the year! CGCM’s Best of 2019) back in 2019. They have a love of heavy metal and horror so they fit in nicely to Bloodstock.
