Bloodstock continue to add bands, some in place of US bands who are having to pull out due to travel issues. The event which all fingers and toes are crossed for is due to happen the weekend of August 11 to 15 at the usual venue of Catton Hall in Derbyshire. Five bands are added to the bill in this news piece, 2 of which are for the main headline stage named after Ronnie James Dio and 3 for the second stage in the big tent named after Sophie Lancaster.

2 For The Dio Stage:

First up are Irish rockers Therapy? who are celebrating 30 years since their first album Babyteeth released away back in 1991! They released a Greatest Hits album in 2020 which featured 12 classic tracks recorded afresh at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London. Both Andy Cairns and Michael McKeegan have been there throughout the years raising merry hell and I would expect them to do so on the main stage on the Sunday of the festival.

Also on the Dio stage on the Sunday are Scottish metal outfit Bleed From Within. The band have been around since 2005 and have 5 albums to their name. Their latest which came out last year Fracture shows some extra melody in their crushing groove-laden riffs. A band that seems to get better on every album and should do some damage pit-wise at Bloodstock!

3 For The Sophie Stage:

Bloodstock M2TM Dates And Venues!

Moving to the Sophie on the Thursday opening the day there are Mother Vulture from Bristol. From the videos I have watched this bunch of crazy buggers make a fabulous noise and remind me of a heavier or at least punkier Budgie! That is a compliment. The press release namechecks both MC5 and The Stoogies and there are definitely elements of both on offer here. They should certainly wake us all up who have been camped from the Wednesday.

Also on Thursday are Canterbury outfit Famyne who are described as “progressive doomsters” and they take their name from the Opeth song “Famine” taken from their Heritage album. With a mix of Black Sabbath (of course), Alice In Chains (especially vocally at times) and the aforementioned Opeth they sound impressive. They have an album on the way so there should be new material for those who saw them on the New Blood stage back in 2016.

Finally for the Saturday in the Sophie we have Party Cannon who describe themselves as “party slam defenders” come from Dunfermline in Scotland they play brutal death metal in a chaotic way and have moaned that “the IQ at the festival has been too high for too long and we are coming to do something about it“. Expect guttural vocals, punishing blast beats and a certain amount of craziness when they hit the stage.
