BLOODSTOCK Clarifies Current Position: Adds New Bands (News)
BLOODSTOCK Clarifies Current Position – April 2020 Poster

Bloodstock Metal Festival are still making plans in the hope that by August restrictions might be over and events are able to go ahead. They have obviously stated that they are keeping an eye on the situation and what the experts have to say and if things change they will, of course, put out notices at that time. In the meantime, they are still going to try and prepare for August by announcing 5 more bands for the Catton Park venue August 6 to 9. One band for the main stage and 4 for the second with each day (Friday to Sunday) having new acts for our enjoyment.

Lost Society

First up on the Friday on the Dio stage and in fact opening that stage for the whole weekend are Finnish metal outfit Lost Society. Formed back in 2010 and still featuring 3 original members, this 4 piece started as a more straight-ahead thrash band but have evolved through the years (and albums) becoming more groove-based metal. They signed to Nuclear Blast records back in 2013 having won attention firstly by winning a battle of the bands tournament and winning a trip to London. A mix of Metallica and Megadeth mixed with Pantera they should open the event in good style.

Video Nasties

Moving onto the Sophie Tent stage for the Saturday we have 1 new announcement namely Video Nasties from Merseyside. They play a mix of death metal but mixed with horror themes and synths and a punk attitude. Some of their stuff is obviously very influenced from horror movies with at times effects and spoken word being used from them. The vocalist can scream like a banshee in keeping with over the top music they make. The band just released their first album Dominion last month which is available in all the usual places.

Wolf Jaw

Moving onto Sunday we have 3 announcements, firstly Wolf Jaw who used to be called The Bad Flowers but changed their name along with their style, with new album The Heart Won’t Listen definitely heavier and angrier than previous. This three-piece still write big choruses though so there is a chance to sing along with their songs. They also have the Rob Halford seal of approval leading the band to say how happy they are to not only play the festival but to be on the same day there as the mighty Priest who headlines that night!

Grave Lines

Also, Sunday comes Grave Lines from London/Brighton. A more gothic doomy band who makes some very brooding music that still is suitably heavy in keeping with Bloodstock. There are also vibes of folk and industrial/noise and singer Jake Harding has a touch of Nick Caves about him at times. Some passages are long and meandering but quite hypnotic drawing you into their darkness.

Vexed

Finally, come Vexed a very new band having formed last year. There isn’t a lot of actual information about them (even on their Facebook page) but they are female-fronted and have singer C.J McMahon from Thy Art Is Murder guesting on at least one song. They have one single out called “Elite” with a second “Dominate” out this month.

For any of the bands you are more curious about there are videos underneath to help give you a taste!

The rest of the festival includes headliners Devin Townsend, Behemoth, Judas Priest, Sophie headliners Bloodywood, The Night Flight Orchestra and Cattle Decapitation and an undercard including Saxon, Orange Goblin, Hatebreed, Conjurer Skindred, Phillip P Anselmo & The Illegals, Dark Tranquillity, Acid Reign, Sacred Reich, Paradise Lost, Savage Master, Vio-lence, Jinjer, Bossk, Gloryhammer, The Black Dahlia Murder, Soen, Bury Tomorrow, Sylosis, Life Of Agony, Blasphemer, Diamond Head, Svalbard, Butcher Babies, Toxic Holocaust, Winterfylleth, Liberty Lies, Memoriam, Exhumed, Necrot, Idle Hands, Black Tongue, Pist, Unleash The Archers, Sharks In Your Mouth, Viscera, Nekrogobikon, Raised By Owls, Dog Tired, The Crawling, Anakim, Bailer and Ramage Inc.
