CROSSON – Rock ‘n’ Roll Love Affair (Album Review)

CROSSON – Thundering from Down Under

Following the success of their acclaimed 2018 album Invincible, Australian-based glam rockers, Crosson, return in 2020 with a new album, the appropriately titled Rock N Roll Love Affair.

The album was mixed by legendary U.S producer Duane Baron (Ozzy Osbourne, Motley Crue, Alice Cooper, Poison).  It is the perfect antidote to these depressing times and a real gateway to the summer.  I really dig the band, with their strong imagery and rocking tunes, so was happy to take a closer look at this release.

CROSSON – Rock ‘n’ Roll Love Affair

Whilst the DNA of the band is probably 90% Eighties Hair Metal, the band also echoes some Bruce Springsteen bombast and the pop sensibilities of early Duran Duran.  There may be those who would hate that mix, but Duran Duran knew how to write tunes that stayed with you for decades, so I think it’s a valid mix.

The album fits a great upbeat template, taking a rocking positive vibe and giving hope that there is still fun in this dark world.  There are no political lines, just the Positive Mental Attitude of songs like “Givin’ up Livin’ Givin’ Up“, with its “time to face another day and turn the fear away” refrain.  Songs like this will make you feel so much better!

There are some wonderful tunes on this release, including the title track and the banging “We All Need An Enemy” (the guitar is supreme here).  There is one obligatory ballad, “You’re the Reason“, but this is pretty cool as well.

Final Thoughts

This release shoots down the blues with a dose of rock ‘n’ roll love.  The band are a great visual spectacle when they play live and they engage really well with their supporters.  To continue this journey upwards, all they need is a break and that bit of luck that every superstar has in their career.
