HARTMANN – 3 (Reissue) (Album Review)

All heart

Oliver Hartmann is the noted German vocalist/guitarist who has been around the block.  He was a member of Avantasia and guested on releases from such great bands as Edguy.  His solo band Hartmann have released a number of smart albums since the debut record in 2005.

The 3 record was originally released in 2009 and has recently been reissued with some remastering to make it sound more modern.

HARTMANN – 3

The opener is the banging “I Won’t Get Fooled Again“, which is not a cover of the Who classic.  However, it is still a great entrance to the main body of the release.   The vocals are really cool, with Hartmann giving it all as a mixture between David Coverdale of Whitesnake and Andrew Eldritch of the Sisters of Mercy.

As the record progresses, the feeling I can’t shake is why I have never heard of the band before.  I consider that my knowledge is pretty good as to rock music, but how this group has eluded me is a real mystery.

3 continues to impress with its augmented reality of tunes like the storming “Right Here Right Now“.  The songs bounce around your head, like a tennis ball being whacked all over the court.  The production is fantastic and I love the dynamics across the board.

Tunes such as “Don’t Give Up Your Dreams” make you sit up with their verdant instrumentation.  It is all ragingly good and makes the perfect accompaniment to long summer evenings with the world swimming around your head.

Final Thoughts

If you haven’t partaken of the mystical wafer of Oliver Hartmann and this group, take a bite and see if you need to come back for more.  Where rock is a religion to you, this makes you believe in the miracles of sound.
