CGCM Rock Radio New Singles – February 16, 2021 (BEAVER BUZZ)

Traditionally Fat Tuesday is a day of feasting and debauchery. In other words, one of Buzzsaw Beaver‘s favourite holidays. Since he’s under lockdown, the debauchery is out the window. Instead, he’s celebrating with a whole sackload of new tunes. The only thing he’s giving up for Lent is not rocking, so we have smooth sailing ahead for the new music on CGCM Rock Radio. This week, Buzzsaw is spinning a dirty dozen from Mammoth WVH, Firstborne, Gypsy Pistoleros, Wicked Smile, Snowy Shaw, Dirtbag Republic, Temple Balls, Fuel2Fire, Immortal Guardian, Midnite City, and The Treatment.

Mammoth WVH – You’re To Blame

Maybe someday the narrative around Mammoth WVH won’t be focused Wolfgang Van Halen‘s pedigree. But that time isn’t now, and the baby Van Halen delivers another incredible song. It’s much more of a rocker than the “Distance” and kicks much ass.

You’re to Blame” is off the upcoming Mammoth WVH album available in June.

Firstborne – Soul Control

Firstborne is an international collaboration involving Chris Adler (Lamb of God), James LoMenzo (Megadeth, Black Label Society, White Lion), guitarist Myrone, and Girish Pradhan (Girish and the Chronicles). “Soul Control” is everything you’d expect: monster drums from Adler, Myrone just tears it up on guitar, and Pradhan is quite simply among the best metal singers in the world.

Soul Control” is exclusively available on Bandcamp.

Gypsy Pistoleros – Lost In A Town Called Nowhere

Gypsy Pistoleros dub themselves “The World’s Greatest Flamenco Sleaze Glam Rock ‘N’ Roll band Ever!” Does it work? Are you fucking kidding me? When Kris Jones drops the mariachi trumpet, it’s on. The song is insanely catchy and I am waiting very impatiently for this album.

Lost in a Town Called Nowhereis off the album The Mescalito Vampires expected in June.

Wicked Smile – Killer at Large

That opening riff is so good. Then the powerful vocals from Danny Cecati kick in and you’re off for a wild ride. Wicked Smile deliver an absolutely killer tune sure to cause hands — and voices — everywhere to turn up the volume.

Killer at Large is off their full-length debut album expected in mid-2021.

Snowy Shaw – Of Hell and Fire

Snowy Shaw has a plan: release a single a month for a year, and then release a full album at the end of the year. The album itself will be an ode to metal. Sounds like 2021 to me. “Of Hell and Fire” is the first release and if it’s any indication, we’re in for a treat.

Of Hell and Fire” is off the This Is Heavy Metal out presumably in December.

Dirtbag Republic – Wannabees

Wannabees” has everything you’re looking for from Dirtbag Republic. A memorable chorus is at the center of this well-crafted song.

Wannabees” is off the Tear Down Your Idols album expected in the spring of 2021.

Temple Balls – Thunder from the North

Wow, is this song thick with sound! It’s layered and ridiculously anthemic. Songs with the word “thunder” in the title better deliver, and Temple Balls follows up their excellent 2019 effort with a gem of a first single. 2021 is going to be a great year for Temple Balls.

Thunder From the North” is off Pyromide expected in April 2021.

Fuel2Fire – Balls to the Wall

No, not that “Balls to the Wall“… Taking on a song with the same title as such as recognizable classic requires, well, balls. Fuel2Fire has plenty. These boys from Australia deliver some killer rock and roll. The song was featured on Wallygator’s Rock and Roll Swamp and is well worth your listen.

Immortal Guardian – Clocks

An absolutely amazing song, from the opening keyboard/guitar riff to the ridiculous solo, highlighted with Gabriel Guardian‘s signature simultaneous guitar and keyboard playing. CGCM‘s own Tom Cornell has a detailed review of the entire Psyochosomatic album that’s well worth the read.

Clocks” is off the album Psychosomatic available now.

Midnite City – Crawlin’ In The Dirt

Sometimes you hear a song and just know that it’s the work of amazing musicians. That’s definitely the case with “Crawlin’ in the Dirt“.  The bass playing from Josh Williams in this song is the standout. It’s a hell of a rocker.

Crawlin’ In The Dirt” is off the album Itch You Can’t Scratch available in May.

The Treatment – Rat Race

The Treatment serves up a bluesy, sleazy dish of rock and roll. Catchy, with great playing all around, I keep coming back to “Rat Race“. The riffs are killer.

Rat Race” is off the album Waiting For Good Luck available in April.
