POUNDER – Uncivilized (Album Review)

Many years ago, or so it seems, I began my musical journey into Rock and Heavy Metal.  I’ve discovered many bands that made me sweat, yell, and bang my head like a maniac.  These days, almost 30 years later, not much has changed. The music scene has evolved and gone in many directions, but my love for it hasn’t waived a bit. I still am constantly seeking the new, exciting, and anything that sparks that fire once again.

The newest band to do so is Pounder. The way they describe themselves is, “Pounder plays Heavy Fucking Metal. Period.” The words couldn’t be more correct. Having that classic, heavy metal sound, they could easily fit in with Motorhead, and Judas Priest with the tradition of rapid-fire riffs and screaming solos, along with Matt Harvey’s raspy, vocals. They guys in Pounder are showing their Metal Gods of yesterday, that once lead the pack in the glory days, that their influence is alive and well.

The Band

Pounder includes extreme metal veteran Matt Harvey (Exhumed, Gruesome, Expulsion) on rhythm guitar and vocals, bassist Alejandro Corredor (Nausea LA, live bassist for Vallenfyre) and lead guitarist Tom Draper (Carcass, ex-Angel Witch, Crowning Glory). Uncivilized pays true homage to the traditional NWOBHM sound.  They could have easily existed back in the 80’s Era of the greats with this album.

The Album

Pounder - UncivilizedFrom the opening track of, “Fuck Off And Die” you’re assaulted with face-melting guitar riffs and some rapid-fire vocals that any metalhead can obtain a concussion too. With the in-your-face chorus that will make any parental figures cringe with disdain, you cannot go wrong with this one.  Following that is the title track, “Uncivilized” with the sound that lovers of that classic NWOBHM crave. Almost has a Judas Priest feel to it to my ears.  “Answer The Call” and “The Evil One” continue in the same vein and close out the album in the same great path it started on.

Summary

Simply put, Uncivilized is simple pure metal at its best. Thank the Metal Gods that it still exists in its truest form here, and can still be enjoyed in its pure, uncompromising nature without gimmicks, and computer hijinks. Uncivilized by Pounder is here and proves that Metal isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
