SIN SAVAGE – Lost In The Dark (EP Review)

Let me tell you about a new band that I have discovered. Sin Savage (formerly known as Nightmare BE), is a group from Belgium with a new EP entitled Lost In The Dark.  I read that this album was a good combination of hard and heavy riffs, mixed with some great writing, and some fantastic melodic moments. This EP was also mixed and mastered at Sierra Studio by Akis Golfidis.

Originally founded in 2011 by Kristof Michiels, Zan Geeraerts, Jasper Vanderheyden, and Vassili Golfidis have gained momentum, with each live performance. Within the last year, however, Kristof made the decision to part ways with the band, being replaced by Andreas Timmerman.

Getting Lost In The Dark

After my first listen to Lost In The Dark, I had to agree with what I was reading about Sin Savage. They absolutely deliver the goods. It has a perfect blend of hard rock and heavy metal. Zan Geeraerts puts on a stand-up performance and his vocals thrust the band out of the garage and into the spotlight. Zan also fronts as the guitarist in Sin Savage. A job that he also takes very seriously.

Jasper Vanderheyden also takes on the guitarist role alongside Zan, adding that heavy double guitar sound that just explodes into my eardrums. Vassili Golfidis handles all the bass riffs, and the excellent, pounding drum sounds are expertly done by Andreas Timmerman.

Diving into The E.P.

The EP opens with the title track. With a fast pace, strong vocals, and proves my statement about the songwriting and melodies. It’s a perfect blending of hard rock with that 80s heavy metal sound that is out there and making a comeback in today’s music. “Hot On Your Heels” comes up next. With a heavy groove and great accompanying riffs combined with the pounding drums, it’s perfect. Great vocals and fantastic writing appear once again.

Sin Savage - Lost In The DarkDown To The Ground” falls into the third slot and gives the guys from Sin Savage the right to call themselves a professional band.  The song is an instrumental that just fits well into this EP. It clearly showcases the talents this band has. The mixing and composition of this track just takes you to another place while listening. I’ve never really been a fan of just instrumental tracks, but this one makes the cut for me!

The last track is called “Through The Gates“. The beginning of this one almost sounded like an Iron Maiden track from Seventh Son, but quickly becomes something else that stands by itself. With a groove, heavy sound, and chugging guitar, I could immediately see the band live on stage playing this, and firing up any crowd into a slamming fury.

Some Psycho Babble

Sin Savage has made it onto my “Music to go” playlist that I carry everywhere. Lost In The Dark is an excellent EP. I can certainly see them going places as long as they stay true to themselves, and stay on the path they have chosen. I hope this band is getting signed soon and makes a promising career out of the talent showcased here. They have definitely made a fan out of this listener.
