Bloodstock 2020 Latest Poster

Bloodstock Metal Festival have made a fresh series of announcements for this the 20th anniversary of the festival, and what a set they are! With more information regarding what Devin Townsend may be playing and doing for his first-ever headline performance, 3 bands for the big stage known as the Dio including the Sunday special guests, 2 bands for the second stage known as the Sophie tent including the Thursday night headliners (a real surprise treat) and in amongst all that we have both bands that headlined the original indoor festival back in 2001 coming back for this special anniversary festival. 2020 looks like a hell of an event already.

So onto firstly the genius that is Devin Townsend. He is promising something different for his performance. Having seen him wow the festival before with some crazy stuff going on, it can only be imagined what he might put together this time around. He has put up a link to a list of songs for fans to pick their favourites for the show! LINK TO SONG CHOICES!

Saxon at Bloodstock 2020

Special guests on Sunday will be the mighty Saxon! Biff and the band played the first night back in 2001 so it is very fitting that they will be on the mainstage 2020. They haven’t played the outdoors event since 2014 so this is a very welcome return to the festival. With a huge selection of songs to choose from this performance should be up there with the best. Old school classic metal with a great attitude and a vocalist still on his game, and with so many classics meaning there will be plenty of chance for a singalong. Expect the crowd to work through the night whilst this band plays on!

Orange Goblin at Bloodstock 2020

Also returning from the very first event to play this year are Orange Goblin. They, like Saxon, have also played the outdoors festival, the last time in 2015. A wonderful mix of stoner, doom, southern, this outfit are also celebrating next year with 25 years of the band. So it will be an even more celebratory performance whilst they go about knocking our heads clean off! A band that really care about metal music proven strongly when singer Ben Ward started a funding campaign to help the staff from rock magazines that lost their jobs when the publishing company went into administration. They even did a benefit for the staff laid off. Metal runs right through them and in Bloodstock they have a natural home. Catch them on the Dio on Sunday!

Conjurer at Bloodstock 2020

Finally, for the Dio stage but for Saturday, we have some extreme heavy progressive metal from the Midlands in the shape of Conjurer. These guys have been around since around 2014 and have an album out called Mire and a 4 track EP (2019) called Split which has over 30 minutes of music on it! Their tracks are certainly longer than the names of their titles! They weave soundscapes that captivate and frighten, often in the same song. They impressed me greatly when they played in 2018 so it is a quick welcome back to a band growing in stature and getting the opportunity to play the main stage this time, a step up from 2 years ago. Well deserved.

Night Flight Orchestra at Bloodstock 2020

The Night Flight Orchestra And Crew!

Moving to the Sophie tent, on the Thursday night headlining are Swedish cheesy 80s rock-loving party band The Night Flight Orchestra featuring 2 members of Soilwork who released the album Sometimes The World Is Not Enough last year to great acclaim. Their influences are all over the album from Deep Purple, Kiss, Reo Speedwagon (don’t knock them, they have some great songs), Europe, Avantasia, Gary Moore and Wham! Honestly! The music is made to party to and sounds fantastic. This will be the first time at Bloodstock and this reviewer could not be happier.

Unleash the Archers at Bloodstock 2020

Wrapping things up in this set of announcements are Canadian outfit Unleash The Archers. This power metal band have been around for a good few years this will I believe their very first visit to the venue at Catton Park playing their mix of old school NWOBHM meeting power and death metal to the hordes at Bloodstock. Fronted by the wonderfully named Brittney Slayes (not her real name of course) who has an excellent voice, they have a very good reputation as a live unit. They will “slaye” the main stage on Sunday.

All this and mainstage headliners Devin Townsend, Behemoth, Judas Priest, Sophie headliners Bloodywood and Cattle Decapitation and an undercard including Skindred, Phillip P Anselmo & The Illegals, Dark Tranquillity, Sacred Reich, Paradise Lost, Vio-lence, Jinjer, Bossk, Gloryhammer, The Black Dahlia Murder, Life Of Agony, Diamond Head, Butcher Babies, Memoriam and Ramage Inc with many more to come.

Early bird discount tickets end December 15 so to get a reduction get in quickly. There will be a very limited amount of VIP upgrades available on the 16th of December. There are not expected to be many places left so need to get in quick if you wish to upgrade.
