HELL’S ADDICTION – V1.0 (EP Review)

As it was pointed out in the last episode of the CGCM PodcastEp#64 – Massive D.I.T.D. With Andy Travis, I tend to lean towards the more melodic hard rock. Yes, that may be true, but there are exceptions! There are times I dive into something a little heavier, and sometimes I go full core metal! I’ve been known to throw on a band called Death, or GWAR at times. I still always go back though. This album fits nicely right into the middle, and has that punch I also love to listen too! So sit back, and enjoy Hell’s Addiction – V1.0.

About Hell’s Addiction

Taking a snippet from the press release that accompanied the album preview, Hell’s Addiction is hailed as the bastard child of an illicit three-way between, Skid Row, early Guns N Roses & AC/DC.  They are here to fuck your world up and still have you crawling back for more .”

So true are those words. After throwing this on and giving a first listen, I was truly impressed. The guitar work, solos, and percussion are a perfect fit, and the vocals again are a harmonious blend into the mix. It’s heavy, rock, and catchy at the same time! It’s fist pounding, and headbanging worthy and still enjoyable to a melodic rock lovers ears.

The Bands History

Coming together in 2010 bassist Jason Green reached out to guitarist Liam Sargent about joining forces to create a band. Sargent recruited his brother Ben to sing and Luke Morley for drums, and they hit the ground running.

The first order was to create what turned out to be two singles back to back, “Alcohol“, and “Let The Good Times Roll” released in 2012. This was before releasing their debut album Raise Your Glass in 2013.  After touring together up and down the UK, and abroad the band released yet another single “What You Gonna Do” in 2015.

This became the leadoff single off their second album Broken in 2016. The success of that album led the Hell’s Addiction boys to open the 2016 Download Festival! Two weeks before the festival the gang had a second guitarist join, and Dan Weir was brought in.

The EP

The EP V1.0 was tracked at Axis Studio in England, and the band had a little trouble deciding on which made the cut or not. “Running Away” nearly didn’t make it, but after some feedback from those around them, they decided to add it on, and has now become a favourite of the band.

Hell's AddictionFree Your Mind” is just simply a balls-out rocker. With its fast-paced guitars and thunderous drums, it sets the pace of the EP. The favourite of the band would be “Masking The Pain.”  This tune is another one that is a killer track that showcases some amazing talent and is for sure a tune that could whip the crowd at a live show into a frenzy.

Next up is a ballad, “If Time Stood Still.”  This track is a perfect fit onto this EP. After being taken to heights of the first two, it’s time to settle back to earth, and take a breath. Once again the hooks and riffs make this another gem of a song. Well-written, and beautifully played, it shows that Hell’s Addiction, isn’t just another flash in the pan.

Psycho Thoughts

All in all, this is an absolute great EP and shows that we will definitely be hearing more from these guys in the future. I haven’t heard the previous albums from them, but I know I’ll be seeking them out VERY soon. Until then, my volume is set at 11 and I’ll be listening to this, and spreading the word to anyone that will listen!
