Japanese Assault Fest 2015 (including articles by David Glynn and The Meister)
Often called “The Land of the Rising Sun”, the East Asian island country of Japan is known for being a successful area for metal bands touring around the world. Many live albums have been recorded in Japan (Iron Maiden‘s Maiden Japan, Michael Schenker Group‘s One Night at Budokan, Judas Priest‘s Unleashed in the East, Dokken‘s Beast from the East) and Japanese bands such as Loudness, Anthem and EZO saw varying degrees of success in North America. It seems that the Japanese issued editions of many albums always seem to contain an extra bonus track or two, making these releases sought after items in the hard rock and heavy metal community. Japan knows how to celebrate music and The Japanese Assault Fest 2015 took place on Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8, 2015. This two-day festival featuring Japanese bands as well as international bands is organised and sponsored by Japanese record label, Spiritual Beast.
Decibel Geek was lucky enough to have two men on the scene in Tokyo for the Japanese Assault Fest 2015. Staff writer David Glynn, a US citizen living in Tokyo was joined by Rich “The Meister” Dillon as he followed his favorite band, Diemonds, from Canada to the festival. Below are the links to the two writers’ accounts of the event, Meister‘s more of a travel blog, centered around Diemonds and David‘s covers more of a total overview of the festival and the bands involved.
David Glynn: Japanese Assault Fest: Truly an Assault on the Senses! – “Rich “The Meister” Dillon arrived from Toronto on Friday night, after which we promptly celebrated until 4 am. Hungover on Saturday, The Meister and I bravely worked our way out to Club Seata in Kichijoji…..”
Meister: Japanese Assault Fest 2015 Adventure – “On a whim and a prayer, inspired by a dare (of sorts), the jet-setting rock and roll festival fanatic, Decibel Geek‘s The Meister (yours truly) was rather spontaneously on his way to Tokyo…..”
