WHITESNAKE – Flesh & Blood (Album Review)

There aren’t too many bands that can last 40 years these days, let alone still be releasing fresh and new material to there adoring fans.  Well the incomparable crooner David Coverdale and the boys who back him have done just that!

The Album

Flesh & Blood will be the 13th studio album from the band. Brought to us from Frontiers Music and once again shows to the young upstarts in the business just how the big boys do it!

Once again you are given Coverdale‘s strong, powerhouse vocals, and standing next to him is the stellar guitar work of Joel Hoekstra, who actually co-wrote 6 of the tracks on the album. The rest of the venomous sounds the snake makes comes from guitarist Reb Beach, Michael Devin on BASS, and Tommy Aldridge is pounding the skins, and on Keyboards is Michele Luppi.

Whitesnake - Flesh & BloodThe album kicks off strong with, “Good To See You Again“, a very catchy riff on the guitar, and David‘s strong vocals accompanying them in typical Whitesnake fashion. This track proves to the listener that they are back this time with something to prove. As an opening track, it’s almost a friendly handshake to the fans since their last effort.

As most readers of this have probably already seen the video for “Shut Up & Kiss Me” you almost get a nostalgic feel with the track, and the video might have something to do with that, with David pulling out the clothes and old car from the “Here I Go Again” video!  Regardless of the throwback, I personally love the song! With a more than excellent guitar riff into the song, the catchy sing-a-long chorus, and the driving drums, you will be grooving with this one by the first chorus!

Leaving one of the best tracks on the album to last is, “Sands Of Time”  A strong and driving anthemic tune that will leave any listener wanting and panting for more by the end!

My Final Psycho Thoughts

Flesh & Blood gives the listeners exactly what fans of Whitesnake clamour for. Strong vocals from Coverdale, anthemic rock riffs all while retaining a fresh sound, that will allow the band to continue to stroll along the path of Rock and Roll that it has walked upon for 40 years! At this rate, and the way David and the gang sound at this point they may be poised to continue rocking for another 40 years!

Rock On!
