WICKED STONE - Ain't No Rest (Album Review)
WICKED STONE – Ain’t No Rest (2017)

Have you ever heard something for the first time and knew immediately that you were going to absolutely love it?  For me, this happens every now and then, and when it does I get so excited to be at the start of a journey into music that I will listen to for years.

One of these most recent times happened to me on Episode #53 of the CGCM Podcast when they interviewed Mr. Paul Stanley from Cloven Hoof Rum. (Which I want available in Canada!)

I remember being on my commute to work listening to the podcast. I was in my own little world and as usual, enjoying most of the music and banter being played up until a band that I never heard of came blasting out of my headphones.

Steve Discovers Wicked Stone:

This band was called Wicked Stone and the track was called  “Another Round”.  As soon as I heard that riff kick in after the little radio dial effect I knew this shit is for me!  I must have played it 3 or 4 times in a row while doing some air drumming and nodding my head all the way to work.

Well, later that morning, I wanted to hear some more. The first chance I had, I looked them up on my streaming service and found their album Ain’t No Rest.  As I pushed play on the first and title track, I knew I was gonna be hooked.  Each song is a pure hard rockin’ headbanging masterpiece.  Wicked Stone has this certain type of groove that I really can’t explain in words, but for me, it works!  If I had to make a guess, its like a mix of AC/DC and The Tragically Hip or something.

There are 10 solid tracks on this 2017 disc with a few extra special standouts.  “The End” is a high tempo crunchy rocker. “Get in or Get Out” is a nice little banger with a very cool groove to it.  “One Time” is just a fantastic foot-stomper/headbanger that I dare anyone to listen to and not nod your head.  The production is fantastic too, the entire disc has a sound that just fills up a room.

Steve’s Final Thoughts:

Bottom line, if you like good plain old hard rock, with a great singer and a loud guitar and drum sound, that keeps you wanting to hear more, then check this band out.  You will not be disappointed.  Thank you CGCM for introducing me to one of my new favourite bands.

CGCM will be on-site to catch Wicked Stone at Call of the Wild Festival 2020 and check out the CGCM Call of the Wild Podcast (contest in the episode is closed).
